As a QA Engineer you will work as part of a team responsible for validating NetApp software products through the use of systematic tests to develop, apply, and maintain quality standards for NetApp products. You are expected to develop, modify, and execute software test plans; analyze and write test standards and procedures; maintain documentation of results; and work closely with development engineers in resolution of problems. You will be member of a software engineering team responsible for assessing quality of file system backup and recovery services using replication technology. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market.
Essential Functions:
• A major part of your responsibility will be to work as part of a team responsible for:
o Gathering test requirements
o Developing, implementing and executing test plans
o Automating test cases
o Generating Test reports and Test summaries
• Configuring test beds with NetApp storage, UNIX, Linux, and Windows hosts, and setting up appropriate test environments
• Work with Development groups to identify and resolve problems.
• Seek out expertise, knowledge, and resources to develop solutions to problems
• You will participate in technical communications within the team and with other groups associated with specified projects.
• Reading and understanding software & hardware design specifications.
• Providing input to improvements of processes and procedures
• Participating in review of QA documentation and test scripts
• Working on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned that will contribute towards team, department, and company goals.
Requirements:
• Knowledge in at least one scripting / Programming language.
• Familiarity with basic concepts of computer architecture, data structures and standard programming practices.
• Experience with QA test methodologies and test execution
• Background in systems, storage or networking
• Basic system administration skills
• Ability to follow standard engineering principles and practices.
• Capable of utilizing existing QA processes, tools and infrastructure
• Strong aptitude for learning new technologies.
• Creative approach to problem solving.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
• Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards.
• Good know ledge of FC protocol
• Experience in working with clustered/high-availability systems
Highly Desirable Skills
• Specific NAS or SAN storage related testing experience
• Working knowledge of contemporary backup and recovery principles / techniques
• Perl or shell scripting experience
Responsibility and Interaction:
• Responsibility:
o The types of tasks this individual is responsible are a mix of structured and unstructured tasks.
o This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving routine to moderately complex problems.
• Interaction:
o This individual interacts primarily with staff to senior mgmt level employees within the function, and the technical team on assigned projects. There may be communication with employees in other functions as required.
o General direction is provided on routine work, and detailed direction is provided on new projects and assignments; as well as on-going review of activities and priorities.
o The ideal candidate will be an important contributor to team projects.
